Par 3
208 | 184 | 160 | 103 yards
After finishing the tough 15th you might hang your head a bit. That is until you climb the hill to the tee on 16 and your jaw hits the floor. This has to be the crescendo of the round. To your right you can see the remarkable 7th on the Blue course. That has to be one of the most photographed holes in the state. However, look slightly left, and across the water sits your hole, the long par 3 16th.
Featuring a biarritz green, this is one daunting tee shot. A forced carry over water and then the forward guarding bunkers is required to reach the green. Missing right is not too bad as a ridge there can kick a ball back onto the green. Missing left will send your ball down (and I mean down) into the lower collection area.
This green is gigantic. 70 yards deep! After your tee shot you walk around to the left and approach the green from below. As you approach you can see the large collection area to the left of the green. Hopefully your ball is not located down there as it would be a tough uphill pitch.
Did I mention you big this green is? My ball hit on the front ledge and rolled into the biarritz. Luckily it stayed on the green but I had a tough up and over putt. This picture doesn't do the angle justice but I hit it up too softly and it rolled back down towards me again.
A better shot of the green showing its scale.
And one more from the right front corner.
I ended up with a four putt here for a double. Ouch! At least I can say it was on the deepest green on the course. Here is one more shot at the green looking back as you head towards the 17th.
