Playing Chaska

It is June, and that means a free birthday round at Chaska Town Course for Lisa.  We headed out on a cool but sunny day on Sunday.

We had lunch beforehand on the patio at Charlie's Grill.  This is the best patio view of a golf course in Minneapolis.  They have some great onion rings, that Lisa always orders when we come here.

We watched groups come in that were participating in an annual club contest between Keller and Chaska.  Keller is closed this year for renovations so all the rounds were contested at Chaska instead of splitting between the courses.

The first hole offers a narrow fairway in the landing zone off the tee.  Normal position here is right on the hill.
The number one handicap is the second hole with a tough uphill approach.

The signature tree on the 3rd hole's fairway befuddles a lot of people on the tee.

A view of the 3rd hole seen from the right edge.  here you can see the green below the fairway and protected in back by the water.

The short 4th hole.  I made a 3 foot birdie putt here today.

One of my nemesis holes, the 5th offers two options off the tee, an iron to the right, followed by a carry over water; or a drive down the left, carrying a creek but offering a direct angle to the width of the green.  I doubled this one.

I think the par 3 6th hole is one of the prettiest par 3s in the Minneapolis area.

Lisa hits her third shot on the par 5 7th hole.  She hit one of the best iron shots I have ever seen but it clipped the top of the tree on the right and dropped into the creek.

Nemesis hole # 2, the 10th.  With a bunker left and the grove of trees left I am rarely on the fairway off the tee here.

Lisa gets up on her toes on the 10th tee.

Nemesis #3, the hardest hole on the course, number 11.  A long drive down the left side is required to have a clear shot to the green on your second.

The par 3 12th with water left and trees right.  I luckily have not had a problem on this hole, probably paring it more than any other hole on the course.

The final nemesis, Mr. 13.  A forced carry over marsh and then an accurate second to a large green is required.

My favourite shot on the course is the second on hole 15.  Aim just to the left of the big tree in the fairway.

The green on number 17 is a long ways away on this straight ahead par 480 yard par 4.

And the sweet finishing hole.  I came up just three feet short of the green in 2 today.  After struggling off the tee all day I cleared both bunkers off the tee and then hit a solid 3 iron about 210 yards.

All in all I had an up and down day.  Trouble off the tee and inability to hit many greens in regulation hampered my round and I ended up with a 89.

As usual, the course is in great shape.  Hopefully I can get out here again soon.
