Conestoga Golf Club - Introduction

The second course I played in Mesquite was Conestoga.  Only a few minutes away from Wolf Creek, Conestog is also right in the middle of the city yet it feels perhaps even more out in the desert than Wolf Creek.  Conestoga is actually in the Del Webb development called Sun City Mesquite but you would never know it as their are virtually no houses visible on the course.

While Wolf Creek can be described as a larger than life fantasy golf course, Conestoga is a little more down to earth.  It has a similar feel but does not offer the nearly non-stop jaw dropping vistas and elevation changes.  Make no mistake though Conestoga is a beautiful course.

Conestoga feels much more like other traditional golf courses I have played before.  The feel of the course is apparent as you pull up in the parking lot and see the namesake covered wagon replica.  Conestoga feels like a much more rustic course, despite it being in the middle of town.

The clubhouse is a beautiful stone building with a nice pro shop and restaurant.

A large driving range sits directly behind the clubhouse, sandwiched between the 1st and 9th holes.  A large practice putting green is also adjacent to the range.  A pretty impressive ridge line is your backdrop as you practice.

I didn't have any time for the range, nor did I need any, having just played 18 at Wolf Creek.  I hopped on my shiny copper golf cart and headed off to play the course!

The course plays to a very challenging 7,232 yards from the tips.  While not as deadly as Wolf Creek the slope and rating from back there are still pretty dang serious.  Here are the tee options:

TeesYardageSlopeRating
Black7,23214774.9
Gold6,75114272.8
Silver6,37813971.0
Copper5,88912869.2
Jade5,01712064.9

The course was designed by Gary Panks in 2010   I am not familiar with Pank's work and have never played another of his designs but he has done a large number of courses in the southwest, Arizona in particular.

The course is highly ranked as one of the top 10 courses in Nevada and is managed by Troon.  Saying that, you can expect the conditions would be top notch and I am happy to say they did not disappoint.

Lets get on to the course itself!
