Hole 1 Par 4
398 | 388 | 373 | 348| 318 yards
The opening hole at Conestoga is a straight away par 4. The primary danger on the tee shot is the right fairway bunker that is in play on a good drive. Aside from this, the fairway is generous and provided you avoid the omnipresent desert, you should find the short stuff.Conestoga offers a much more natural desert feel with native plants lining the holes.
I boomed a drive past the bunker and had about 80 yards to a green that is flanked short by a pair of bunkers. The bunker on the right wraps around the first half of the green and is probably the more problematic one, especially if the pin is tucked in the back right corner of the green.
This view taken from behind the green shows how that right bunker will gobble up anything missing right,
This green is sizable but relatively flat.
Hole 2 Par 3
188 | 162 | 144 | 130 | 94 yards
The first par 3 of the day is a beautiful island of green sitting well below the tee grounds and surrounded by desert. I was given the good advice by my playing partner to take about 2 clubs less to account for the elevation, a tip that paid off well when I hit the center of the green. This view is off the hole as you leave the first green.
From the tee the design feature you will likely be drawn to is the stone wall that runs around the left side of the grass. The green is slightly tucked behind this wall. I would advise not taking on a tucked pin as playing from below that wall is possible but obviously offers a terrific challenge.
There is room to miss short right, however a wide bunker wraps behind the green long left. Aim for the center of this 30 some yard deep green and take your par.
The desert views from this tee off to the right are pretty impressive to behold. Take a look also at all the balls embedded in the earth. Pretty funny!
A view of the bunker behind the green shows how deep it is. Not an easy out with that stone wall drop off waiting for you on the other side.
Hole 3 Par 4
418 | 366 | 335 | 315 | 186 yard
A tricky par 4 that really requires some local knowledge to negotiate correctly. The hole is a dogleg right. You can see the green behind the large bunker in the distance. From the tee your eyes just see a lot of desert.
The best line for long hitters is just to the left of the desert peak that sits on the right corner of the dogleg. I hit a 3 wood in a line over the 150 yard pole in the photo and found the desert through the fairway. Trying to cut too much of the knob on the corner is asking for trouble, unless you can fly it at least 240 yards.
Once you turn the corner on the hole the next challenge is the high faced bunker that guards the right side of the green. Depending on how far back your tee ball landed, you will likely be required to play right over this trap. From this vantage point skirting the desert across the fairway the green is a bit more exposed.
