Winter in Minnesota can be a cruel time for golfers. Staring out the window at 2 feet of snow rather than green grass can make the warm weather days of spring and summer seem like a long way off. Sometimes the only green grass you can find is looking at golf magazines or books, or in this case painting.
This winter I was commissioned by a friend to paint a birthday gift for her husband. His favorite courses are Troon North in Scottsdale.
The big unveil was yesterday at our Masters party, so I can finally share the painting.
This is a picture of what I found to be one of the most stunning holes when I played. The 8th hole on the Pinnacle course. A challenging par 3 with lots to distract your eye of the tee. The boulders and sand hide a large landing area behind. The green is protected front by a large bunker, and also flanked by another pair behind the putting surface. This hold is named McDowell Vista, after the mountain range visible in the background.
